Dystopian Post Election Chaos

Picture the scene unfolding, late night November 3rd. Unlike the 2016 election most pundits, despite polls from nearly every news source predicted a much closer, more contentious election. They mentioned, that more than likely the results may not be conclusive until days, if not weeks after election day.

The madness began with president Trump's bombastic threat to the nation that he may not be willing to transfer power peacefully should he be defeated. Trump's dangerous and undemocratic rhetoric spewed from his disgusting, uncensored mouth as if it were just another insulting tweet. I'm not sure what his strategy or benefit is to make such a maniacal proclamation. Trump has been ignorantly bashing mail in ballots despite the fact they've been used on and off since 1864, without much controversy. The Gore vs. Bush 2000 election nightmare in Florida notwithstanding, the ballots have always been relatively ignored and not not necessarily needed.

Covid-19 arrived in February, and contrary to Trump and his most loyal sychopants the pesky, yet deadly virus is still raging and will continue to rage well passed election night. So common sense would apply that millions of people in fear of getting sick standing in line to vote for two candidates they probably didn't like much anyway stayed home to safety vote through the USPS. Since starting this piece Trump has been defeated convincingly, yet as I and many others predicted Donald stuck to his word. He refused to accept losing, not only that his outlandish claims of voter fraud has riled up his most ardent and radical supporters. This large part of his voting base are extremely boisterous and quite dangerous especially with firearms in tow.

As for Joe Biden, he never made any pre-election promises to not accept the results in the event of his defeat. Even though the Biden/Harris ticket was never a favorite amongst the far-left of the democratic party they still managed victory. They received a record amount of votes, close to 80 million at the current moment. Say what you want about both of their center-right past policies, but Biden and Harris have showed nothing but patience and dignity throughout this laborious on going process. It is a breathe of fresh air to see an incoming president show signs of being an adult and not a peticulant child that his soon to be predecessor has shown the last four years.

As we are seeing various "stop the steal" campaigns around parts of the country it does frighten me a bit to see opposing radicals clubbing each other in the streets over two septuagenarians who really could care less about the general public. I'm not going to insist on peaceful protests or we should "come together as a nation" but use your individual thought process. Don't follow the crowds, be a leader or just succomb to the unfortunate but inevitable feeling of apathy. Because either way friends, very little will change.

PS  - I began this piece in early October and finished it after the election results were official.
